Dog Care is the First pet grooming school in Singapore established in 1986. We offer structured grooming syllabuses for both Professional and Amateur training. Our school also organizes post graduate Professional Groomer Testing programs and seminars / trade shows in Pennsylvania and California, USA. Our School and Dog Care (USA) is jointly conducting grooming courses by National Dog Grooming Assn of America and International Professional Groomers Inc. Certified Master Groomer (s/no. SNG01). Train with dedicated instructors who are also certified Companian Animal Hygienists. Frequently Asked Questions 1. What are the entrance requirements? You need not have any prior experience. All applicants must be 18 years of age and above. Parental/ Guardian consent is needed for applicants below 18 years old. Steady eye / hand coordination is a requirement, as you will be using sharp instruments on pets. Above all you should have a genuine love for animals. 2. Where are the Courses conducted? At 232 Whitley Road Singapore 297824 within the premise of the Mt Pleasant Animal Hospital. 3. What are the school hours? 10.30am to 4.30pm. Closed on Public holidays. 4. What are the training days of the Professional Grooming Course? Three weekdays and 1 weekend. You will be informed of your training days upon commencement of the Course. 5. Do I get make up lessons for leave of absence (Professional Grooming Course)? Students are allowed 6 days notified absence with make up lessons. Make up lessons will not be entertained for additional absenteeism 6. Is there a part time Professional grooming course? Regrettably, no. The Professional Grooming course is very comprehensive and as such requires you to attend 4 days a week. The training is tailored for the professional who wants to make pet grooming a career. 7. What happens if I fail the Professional grooming course. Our training method has yielded 100% passes. We believe that it is unfair to base your results on just one examination. You will be continually assessed throughout your training for your skill & speed of grooming. You can only ascend to the next module after you have satisfied all requirements. We understand that different breeds and temperaments affect your results. Therefore a series of tests are given instead. Our training method stresses on personalized instruction to improve on your weaknesses and build on your strengths which is why we only accept 5 students at any given time. 8. What are the training days of the Amateur Grooming Course? Over 8 consecutive Sundays. 9. Do I get make up lessons for leave of absence (Amateur Grooming Course)? Students are allowed 2 Sundays notified absence with make up lessons. Make up lessons will not be entertained for additional absenteeism 10. Does the School conduct night classes? Our School is a fully operational pet grooming centre with business hours during the day. You will be alloted our clients' pets for hands on training under close guidance / supervision to maintain our reputation as one of Singapore's most established and dedicated pet grooming concern. As such we do not conduct night classes. 11. Can I get a grooming job after I graduate? Most of our foreign & local students secure freelance grooming jobs even before they graduate. Others start successful pet shops/ salons upon their graduation. Your certification by our School affirms that you have undergone formal professional groomer training. The School will also apply for you to be a member in good standing of the International Pet Groomers (USA). This membership accords you the privilege of keeping abreast with the latest trends in the pet grooming industry. It also gives you the opportunity to further enhance your skills in post graduate specific breed grooming and certification. Though we cannot guarantee your job placement, we frequently receive invitations by many Singapore pet shops for our graduates to take up full time groomer positions. 12. How much does the grooming kit cost and where can I buy it ? The complete grooming kit costs approximately $550 (subject to exchange rate) The School will acquire the kit for you at a discounted dealer's price. 13. What is the Dress Code during my training? Casual wears with a white tee-shirt / blouse and a waterproof apron 14. When is the course starting? We conduct a flexible intake system. You can join the course anytime as long as we have a vacancy. However we only teach 5 students at any given time. Applicants are encourage to call and book their places in advance to avoid disappointment as our courses are popular 15. How do I enroll for the courses? We encourage all applicants to visit our School to have a personal meeting. The balance of 90% is payable upon commencement of the Course. 17. Licensing for Dog Groomers? Is Dog Care's Diploma recognised? There are no state laws for 'Professional Groomers' in Singapore. However, Dog Care is a registered School & Salon with ROCB Singapore and San Diego in the state of California, USA. Attending and achieving a diploma from a registered school and member of IPG & NDGAA is the best way to validate Professional Status in the eyes of the public. We help our graduates who wish to further their qualification by arranging further testing for breed certification so that they can gain recognition in the USA. |
